The verdict

Reviewed by Matthis Duarte · checked 2026-09-05 · how we check

Mistral Vibe is the general-purpose assistant from Mistral AI, a Paris-headquartered AI lab, and it now folds a coding agent into what used to be the simpler Le Chat chatbot. The free plan gives quick answers, web search and a small amount of API credit, which is enough to try it out and use it occasionally. Anyone who wants extended daily use, longer coding sessions or more image generation needs the paid Pro plan, currently listed at $14.99 per month on Mistral's own pricing page (with a discounted student rate).

What you get, what you give up

What you get

  • Free chat, web search and coding help with real (if capped) API credit included
  • Built and run by a Paris AI lab, not a wrapper around a foreign model

What you give up

  • The free plan limits message volume, web searches and coding session length compared to Pro.
  • Pro is priced and billed in US dollars even though the company is French, so there's no local-currency option shown.
  • Team-level features like domain verification and larger storage require the separate Team plan, not Pro.

What Mistral Vibe actually does

Mistral Vibe is the general-purpose AI assistant from Mistral AI, the Paris-headquartered AI research lab, and it's the successor to the company's earlier Le Chat product. Where Le Chat was mainly a chatbot, Vibe folds a coding agent into the same assistant, so the same app handles everyday questions, web-search-backed answers, image generation and hands-on coding tasks.

The core product

Vibe runs as a web app, as iOS and Android apps, and it also plugs directly into developer tools — IDEs and a command-line interface — for coding-agent style work, rather than being confined to a chat window.

The free plan lets anyone sign up and start using it within minutes. It includes:

  • Chat with web search
  • A capped number of coding sessions
  • Image generation
  • Access to Mistral's Studio tooling
  • A monthly allowance of API credit for people who want to experiment with Mistral's underlying models directly rather than only through the chat interface

Because it's built and run by a French AI lab rather than being a wrapper around a foreign model, the assistant's underlying models are Mistral's own.

What's new or notable

The coding-agent integration is the most significant change from the old Le Chat: instead of a separate coding tool, Vibe can work inside a CLI, an IDE or the web app for longer, more autonomous coding sessions, with the Pro plan removing the session-length restrictions that free users hit.

Pro also raises message and web-search limits to roughly six times the free allowance, expands image generation by roughly 40x, and adds unlimited task scheduling and up to 1,000 project folders, on top of a larger monthly API credit allowance and chat/email support.

Above Pro sits a Team plan built for organizations, adding per-user cloud storage, domain verification and data export, and above that an Enterprise tier offers custom models, audit logs, SAML single sign-on and dedicated support for larger deployments.

Who should use Mistral Vibe

Great fit if…

  • You want a capable free AI assistant without a subscription. The free plan gives real (if capped) chat, web search, coding sessions and API credit rather than a time-limited trial.
  • You're a developer who wants an assistant that lives in your terminal or IDE. Vibe's coding-agent integration with CLIs and IDEs goes further than a typical browser-only chatbot.
  • You'd rather use a European-built model than a US one. Mistral Vibe runs on Mistral's own models, developed and hosted by a Paris-based lab, for anyone who prefers that over relying on a non-European provider.
  • You occasionally need image generation alongside chat. Both the free and Pro plans include image generation, with Pro offering substantially more of it.

Skip it if…

  • You need extended, all-day coding sessions regularly. The free plan's coding session limits will interrupt serious daily development work; you'll need Pro to work without those caps.
  • You want to pay in euros. Pro is priced and billed in US dollars on Mistral's own site, with no local-currency option shown, despite Mistral being a French company.
  • You need team-level administration or security features. Domain verification, larger shared storage and data export are Team-plan features, not available on Pro even for a solo power user.

Pricing in detail

Mistral Vibe has a genuinely usable free tier, a $14.99/month Pro plan for individuals, and separate Team and Enterprise tiers for organizations.

PlanPriceWhat's included
Free$0Chat and web search with capped limits, limited coding sessions, image generation, access to Mistral Studio, roughly $10/month in API credit, and 100+ connectors.
Pro$14.99/month (discounted student rate available)Message and web-search limits raised to roughly 6x free, all-day coding access in CLI/IDE/web, roughly 40x more image generation, a larger monthly API credit allowance, chat and email support, unlimited task scheduling, and up to 1,000 project folders.
Team$24.99 per user/month (minimum $50/month)All Pro features plus up to 30GB storage per user, domain name verification, data export, and higher usage limits across the board.
EnterpriseCustom pricingCustom models and agents, custom workflows, audit logs, SAML SSO, white-label options, and dedicated support with private deployment options.

Where it falls short

  • The free plan is capped in ways that matter for regular use. Message volume, web searches and coding session length are all limited compared with Pro, so anyone using Vibe daily for real work will feel the ceiling.
  • Pro is billed in US dollars, not euros. Even though Mistral is a French company, there's no local-currency pricing shown on its own site, so European subscribers deal with currency conversion on top of the listed price.
  • Team features aren't available to solo paying users. Domain verification and larger storage require moving to the per-seat Team plan rather than being available as an add-on to a single Pro subscription.
  • Enterprise-grade controls (SSO, audit logs) require a custom-priced Enterprise agreement. Smaller organizations that need just one of those features still have to go through a sales conversation rather than picking it off a fixed price list.

Privacy & data

Mistral AI is a French company operating under GDPR, which gives EU users baseline rights over their data regardless of which Mistral Vibe plan they're on. Beyond that jurisdictional point, the specifics of how chat and coding-session content are retained or used to improve Mistral's models were not verifiable in detail from the plans and features listed on Mistral's public pricing page at the time of this check, so we're not asserting a specific training or retention policy here.

Anyone using Vibe for confidential code or sensitive business conversations should check Mistral's current privacy and data-processing documentation directly, particularly if they're relying on the free tier rather than a paid plan with a formal agreement.

How we checked this

This review is based on Mistral AI's public pricing page (mistral.ai/pricing) and product page for Vibe, checked on 4 September 2026 and re-verified on 5 September 2026 by explicitly selecting France and the EUR display currency on Mistral's own site — the Pro and Team prices did not change from their dollar figures, confirming this is a genuine vendor billing choice rather than a geolocation artifact. Plan names, prices and feature allowances are as published by Mistral at the time of checking; we did not conduct hands-on testing of coding-agent performance, message limits or image-generation quality, and some figures (such as relative multipliers on message limits) are Mistral's own stated comparisons rather than independently measured numbers.

What we check on every tool

Five things get checked on every tool, free or paid, and the answers are printed on the page with the date they were checked. Nothing is hidden because it looks unflattering — a tool with a short trial is listed exactly like any other, and labelled so you know what you are signing up for.

  • 1Card up front? Whether you have to hand over card details before you can use it at all.
  • 2Does it expire? Whether the free version stops working after a set number of days.
  • 3Where's the wall? Whether the free tier's real limit — an advert, a quota, or a feature held back for the paid plan — is named, not left vague.
  • 4Easy to cancel? How many steps it takes to stop paying, and whether it auto-renews quietly.
